cliche /klee-shay? (noun) - a phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought.
Cliches...they are short, sometimes clever, and easy to remember, which is why they can so easily become overused. And while they often contain some element of truth or wisdom to them, it is at best a partial truth. The fact that they are pronounced as truth can become not only unhelpful, but even hurtful. This is particularly the case with Christian cliches. Let's be honest...some of the stuff Christians say needs to be put away. If you've ever heard a fellow Christian offer some platitude as if it were an undeniable truth that came straight from Scripture while you were left scratching your head and saying, "Huh?" then you know what we're talking about. This month, we'll begin a new series that confronts some of the most familiar of these sayings. Exposing the untruths they contain can help us all become more faithful and more thoughtful Christians.
